JK Paper MD Raises Red Flag: Can India’s Paper Industry Withstand the Pressure?

Though the Indian paper industry is experiencing a gush, spurred on by education, printing, and packaging, JK Paper Managing Director Harsh Pati Singhania is apprehensive about the cheap imports from various Asian countries that are crumbling profit margins of the domestic manufacturers. Singhania remarked that this sector is growing at a constant 5-6% rate, but margins are reduced by 60-70% due to these imports and the high costs of local wood. Therefore, he appealed for government intervention to protect the interests of Indian producers with anti-dumping and rigorous quality checks.
