India has unveiled a comprehensive 6G roadmap guided by four strategic pillars: global interoperability, a common technical framework, accelerated innovation, and inclusive growth. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized that these priorities will shape India’s leadership role in next-generation telecom standards and ensure sustainable, globally aligned outcomes.
India’s proactive engagement in 6G standardization reflects its ambition to contribute significantly to global benchmarks. The Bharat 6G Alliance, established in 2022, is central to this mission, aiming to position India as a key player in shaping the future of intelligent, immersive connectivity.
Global Interoperability
Scindia highlighted that seamless interoperability across networks, devices, and services is essential for 6G adoption worldwide. India is working closely with international bodies like ITU and 3GPP to ensure harmonized spectrum allocation and standards.
Common Technical Framework
Developing a unified technical framework will help avoid fragmentation and ensure smooth deployment of 6G technologies. India’s role in standard-setting is expected to contribute at least 10 percent to global patents and standards.
Accelerated Innovation
The roadmap emphasizes fostering research and innovation in areas such as transport electrification, industrial automation, and immersive applications, positioning India as a hub for telecom innovation.
Inclusive Growth
Scindia stressed that 6G must drive inclusive growth by ensuring accessibility, affordability, and indigenous innovation, empowering both rural and urban communities.
