Kangra Set to Soar: HPTDC Headquarters Move Promises Tourism Boom

In a historic decision, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) is relocating its head office from Shimla to Kangra, a move welcomed by officials as a game-changer for the state's tourism sector. With the announcement made by HPTDC Chairman RS Bali and supported by senior government officials, Kangra has become the new tourism hub, with a focus on turbocharging tourist inflow and economic growth.

The shifting is also likely to decongest Shimla and develop administrative attention in Kangra, which has famous places like Dharamshala, McLeodganj, and Palampur. "It is a massive boon for the people of Kangra and will provide a new wing to tourism in the district," Himachal Road Transport Corporation Vice President Ajay Verma said. The step comes in tandem with large-scale infrastructure development, such as the expansion of Kangra Airport and improvement of local landmarks, indicating a holistic approach to drawing both national and international tourists.

With HPTDC reporting a record turnover of ₹107 crore this year, officials believe the headquarters shift will further boost the region’s hospitality sector. However, experts caution that neglected HPTDC hotels in Kangra need urgent upgrades to fully realize the district’s tourism capital dream.
