Kashmir Valley Greets New Snowfall, Breaking Lull of Dry Weather

The Kashmir Valley has at last welcomed much-needed rains, with new snowfall in upper reaches and rain in the plains. The change in weather comes as the region experienced unprecedented dry weather for almost two months that took a toll on water resources, agriculture, and power generation. The Meteorological Department forecasts more wet weather, with light to moderate rain and snow on most places until February 21. The rain and snow are essential for filling up parched springs, correcting the water balance of the region, and even reducing worries about the summer water supply. The snowfall also provides hopes of better times in favorite tourist spots like Gulmarg.
