Kashmir's Iconic Chinar Trees Get High-Tech Protection with Geo-Tagging

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have launched an innovative geo-tagging initiative to conserve the region's iconic Chinar trees. Over 28,000 trees have been digitally mapped, equipped with QR codes, and cataloged into a comprehensive database to ensure better management and preservation. Dubbed the "Digital Aadhar" for Chinars, this effort also includes distributing saplings to schools and institutions, fostering awareness about their ecological and cultural significance. The project looks to address the declining population of heritage trees, critical to Kashmir's identity.
