Kerala Unveils Multi-Crore Action Plan to Address Human-Wildlife Crisis

The Kerala government has announced a ₹70.4 crore action plan to check human-wildlife conflict in 273 high-risk panchayats of 75 assembly constituencies. On February 28, 2025, the plan was announced, which among other measures includes the creation of primary response units of local volunteers in areas of high concentration and implementation of AI-fencing in Wayanad. The efforts will be coordinated by a state-level committee headed by Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan, with district committees that include MPs/MLAs for quick action. The plan puts emphasis on high-tech for real-time animal tracking, higher compensation for loss of crops/livestock, and conservation of water in forests. Operationalisation by March 15 is to be done by all committees.
