Kolkata to Varanasi in Record Time: Expressway to Revolutionize Travel

The much-anticipated Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway is set to transform connectivity between the two cities, reducing travel time from the current 12-14 hours to just 6 hours. This ambitious project, part of the Bharatmala Pariyojna initiative, spans approximately 610 to 690 kilometers and traverses four states: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

The expressway will feature a speed limit of 120 km/h, ensuring swift and efficient travel. It will pass through 18 districts, including key locations such as Varanasi, Ranchi, and Kolkata, and is expected to boost tourism, agriculture, and industrial growth in the region. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹35,000 crore, is being constructed in 13 phases under the Greenfield project model.

The foundation stone for this transformative infrastructure was laid in 2014, and the first phase of construction is already underway. The expressway is anticipated to create thousands of jobs and provide direct connectivity for millions, significantly enhancing the local economy and quality of life.
