Lights, Camera… No Action: DMRC Pulls Plug on Metro Reels

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has rolled out a new set of in-train and station announcements warning commuters against filming reels, dance videos, and other social media content within metro premises. This move, effective from September 14, aims to restore decorum and ensure a comfortable travel experience for all passengers.

- The bilingual announcements, in Hindi and English, now join existing reminders that prohibit eating and sitting on the floor inside coaches  
- DMRC clarified that while the Metro Railways Act, 2002 does not explicitly mention filming reels, violators can be fined under provisions related to creating a nuisance  
- The crackdown follows a surge in viral videos filmed inside trains, including dance performances, lip-sync clips, and get-ready-with-me routines, which have drawn criticism from regular commuters  
- Flying squads, previously tasked with preventing men from entering women’s coaches, have now been instructed to monitor and deter content creation activities  
- DMRC has also launched a parallel social media campaign urging passengers to avoid playing loud music on their phones  
- Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed to prevent inconvenience and maintain the metro’s reputation for efficiency and order  
- Despite previous warnings, influencers continue to use metro coaches as backdrops for viral content, making enforcement a persistent challenge
