Maharashtra MICEs Ahead: India’s First State-Led Convention Bureau Debuts

Maharashtra has made a significant leap by launching India’s very first state-led convention bureau, the Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB). This initiative aims to transform the state—and particularly Mumbai—into a global hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism. The unveiling took place at IMEX Frankfurt, the leading trade show for the MICE industry, marking a pivotal moment in India’s efforts to attract high-profile business events and establish itself as a premier destination for international gatherings.

 

Located in Mumbai, the MCB will act as a comprehensive resource for event organizers, providing administrative assistance, venue coordination, and easy access to Maharashtra’s top-notch infrastructure, which includes the renowned Jio World Convention Centre and a robust network of hotels and transportation options. The launch of the bureau is a key element of the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, designed to tap into the state’s immense potential for business tourism and stimulate economic growth across various sectors, including hospitality, education, and infrastructure.

 

The MCB has already landed several major global events, such as the International Baccalaureate Congress (2026), ICANN Annual Conference, International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics (2025), Asian Seed Congress (2025), and the UIA International Forum of Architects (2027), all set to take place in Mumbai. The bureau will also promote collaboration with venues and service providers, ensuring that Maharashtra is well-prepared to host events of all sizes.

 

Industry leaders are celebrating this initiative as a “transformative moment,” with global MICE experts acknowledging Maharashtra’s ambition to set new standards for business tourism in India.
