Maharashtra’s Bold Move: Aadhaar-Linked e-KYC Now Compulsory for Ration Cards

The Maharashtra government has made Aadhaar-based e-KYC compulsory for all ration cardholders with a strict deadline of March 31, 2025. The move is intended to bring transparency and check misuse in the Public Distribution System (PDS). Beneficiaries who do not comply risk losing subsidized food grains.

The e-KYC procedure includes the connection of Aadhaar cards to ration cards to authenticate the identities of the beneficiaries. It is done either online through the state PDS portal or offline through nearby ration offices and Common Service Centers (CSCs). The government has also launched the "Mera e-KYC" mobile app with facial recognition technology to make the process of verification more convenient.

This step is a part of the larger initiative to modernize government services and remove fake beneficiaries. The authorities appeal to all deserving citizens to make the process early so that there are no interruptions in receiving necessary rations.
