Born March 16, 1965, in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Carney grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. Carney earned a degree in economics at Harvard University prior to the receipt of his doctorate at Oxford University. Carney's illustrious career includes leading Canada through the 2008 financial crisis as Bank of Canada Governor and being the first non-British Governor of the Bank of England through Brexit. He also briefly worked at Goldman Sachs and was a UN special envoy for climate action. Married to economist Diana Fox, whom he met at Oxford, Carney has four daughters.
