Mazagon Dockyards and TKMS Seal Submarine Deal, Excluding Navantia

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL) has initiated negotiations with Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) for the construction of six advanced diesel-electric submarines under Project-75I, a major development for India's naval capabilities. This follows after the Indian Ministry of Defence disqualified the joint bid from Larsen & Toubro and Spanish firm Navantia due to compliance issues. At about ₹70,000 crore the deal is part of efforts to raise the underwater capabilities of the Navy, with state-of-the-art Air Independent Propulsion systems. This shall be a big step forward  towards the modernization of India's naval fleet.
