AIIMS Delhi Director Dr. M Srinivas has sounded an alarm on the increasing cases of obesity in India, calling for urgent dietary interventions. At a recent press conference, Dr. Srinivas emphasized that fats must make up no more than 20% of a person's diet in order to address the obesity pandemic. This comes after a recent study showed that one in every eight Indians is now obese, with child obesity levels increasing fourfold in the last few years. Dr. Srinivas emphasized the need for early nutrition education and school-level interventions to tackle the crisis. The AIIMS director's comment coincides with Prime Minister Modi's recent appeal in his Mann Ki Baat speech to cut oil use by 10% as a measure towards combating obesity.
