Metro Makeover: Five New Underpasses to Transform Gurugram Commute

Gurugram traffic jams are about to undergo a dramatic transformation as Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) will build five new underpasses along the Old Gurugram Metro route in its second phase. This action is meant to address some of the city's busiest and most crowded intersections, ensuring smoother and quicker travel for thousands of commuters daily.

These underpasses will be constructed at strategic locations: Sector-3A/4/5 Chowk opposite Railway Road, Sector-5 junction to Sheetla Mata Road (one way), Bajghera Road to Krishna Chowk (one way), Rejangla Chowk, and Palam Vihar Road junction between Udyog Vihar and Old Delhi Road.

Total estimated cost of construction of all five underpasses is approximately ₹350 crore.

The work will be conducted in tandem with the metro construction process, causing minimal interference and quicker completion.

The DPR will be readied by the Systra agency of GMRL and will be financed by construction cost, courtesy GMDA. 

It was debated and greenlit during a recent meeting of the GMDA, chaired by Chief Minister Haryana Nayab Singh Saini.

The first phase of the metro project has already commenced, with a ₹1,286 crore tender floated for civil work between Millennium City Centre and Sector-9. The Bakhtawar Chowk underpass worth ₹80.45 crore will also be constructed by GMRL.

The new infrastructure is likely to bring much relief from traffic congestion and enhance last-mile connectivity to the metro stations.
