Middle Class Set to Benefit from Major Income Tax Relief

In a significant move, the Indian government has announced substantial income tax relief for the middle class in its latest budget. Individuals earning up to ₹1.2 million ($14,841) annually will now be exempt from income tax, up from the previous threshold of ₹700,000. This change is expected to boost household consumption, savings, and investment, potentially stimulating economic growth. The government anticipates this measure will result in a ₹1 trillion ($11.6 billion) reduction in annual treasury revenue. Economists believe this tax cut could generate up to ₹5 trillion in additional consumption this year, particularly benefiting urban middle-class spending on electronics, consumer durables, and entertainment.
