Minister Urges ICAR to Boost Tech Adoption in Fish Farming

The Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has urged the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to promote the wider use of technology among fish farmers. This effort aims to modernize India’s aquaculture sector, which has experienced a 35% rise in the adoption of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) over the last three years. The emphasis on integrating technology aligns with the government’s commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices and the Blue Revolution Scheme. With more than 60% of aquaculture farmers already utilizing tech-driven methods, leading to yield increases of 25-30%, the minister’s call aims to further accelerate this trend. This initiative is anticipated to boost productivity, enhance disease management, and optimize resource use in the rapidly expanding fish farming industry.
