Modi's World Tour: A Rs 258 Crore Ticket to International Influence

According to figures announced in Parliament today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken 38 foreign trips from May 2022 to December 2024, which cost the Indian government almost Rs 258 crore. The most expensive trip was to the US in June 2023, costing slightly above Rs 22 crore. The second most expensive trip was to Japan which cost Rs 17.19 crore and then to the US again in September 2024, costing Rs 15.33 crore. The details of this expenditure were provided by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha. The government clarified that the expenditure was incurred by the Prime Minister in visits to various countries across the globe including Germany, Denmark, France, UAE, Australia, Egypt, etc. The previous prime ministers had cost the Indian government between Rs 6 crore and Rs 10 crore for a visit to the US, Russia, France, and Germany. The government qualified that the expenditures do not include rupee depreciation or inflation.
