The monsoon, which is critical for agriculture and the economy, is expected to begin June 1 over Kerala and extend up to half of September. Neutral El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole, and lower snow cover over Eurasia and the Himalayas, are held to be favorable for a normal monsoon. Most regions will see increased rainfall, although Northwest India, Northeast, and Tamil Nadu will have sub-normal rain.
