More Time to Get Ready: SEBI Delays Finalizing Retail Algo Trading Rules!

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has extended the timeline to finalize standards for retail investor participation in algorithmic (algo) trading to May 1, 2025. This extension provides additional time for market participants, including brokers and algo providers, to align with the new regulatory framework aimed at enhancing transparency and safety in algo trading. The framework, initially set to be finalized by April 1, includes measures such as unique order identifiers, stricter broker oversight, and the empanelment of algo providers. SEBI's goal is to ensure robust risk management and clear accountability while allowing retail investors to benefit from algo trading, which was previously dominated by institutional players.
