Nagpur Takes Action: Heatwave-Prone Areas Identified for Safety Measures

In a proactive move to combat rising temperatures, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has identified ten areas in the city as heatwave-prone. These include Sitabuldi Market, Kalamna Market, Reshimbag Ground, Ganeshpeth Bus Stand, Dhairyasheel Colony, Cotton Market, Itwari and Boriapura, Harpur Stadium, Jumairan Bazaar Mela, and Bhandewadi Dumping Yard.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari has directed the implementation of both short- and long-term measures to mitigate the impact of heatwaves. These include the installation of water stations, the adoption of heat-reflective temperature shields on municipal buildings, and the reduction of tin or asbestos roofing in households. Public drinking water stations, or Panjrapols, will also be established in key areas to provide relief to residents.

This initiative is part of a broader heatwave action plan aimed at safeguarding public health and enhancing urban resilience. The NMC's efforts underscore the importance of community awareness and preparedness in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
