Nation Unites to Celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti: A Long Weekend of Tribute and Togetherness

As India prepares to celebrate Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's centenary on his 135th birth anniversary, schools in a number of states are planned to be shut on April 14, 2025. The festival, Ambedkar Jayanti, coincides with the second Saturday on April 12 and Sunday on April 13, thus providing a long weekend for students as well as professionals. Telangana has declared a three-day-consecutive holiday for schools and colleges, while other states have also reported similar closures.

Dr. Ambedkar, the mastermind of the Indian Constitution and an advocate of social justice, is feted by way of cultural activities, public readings, and flower tributes across the country. This public holiday not only serves to pay homage to his historical contributions but also provides an opportunity for families to organize extended weekend outings or holidays prior to summer breaks.
