The appointment of Rahul Kanwal as CEO and Editor-in-Chief was confirmed by NDTV's Board of Directors on April 25, 2025, after receiving the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
The appointment is effective from June 16, 2025, and is pending approval of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Kanwal took charge formally on May 26, 2025, after completing his terms at India Today Group on May 23, 2025.

Kanwal has more than 25 years of Indian journalism experience in senior positions at India Today, Aaj Tak, Headlines Today, and Zee News.
He was News Director at TVTN and Executive Director of Business Today in India Today Group, and was the face of the channel's flagship shows 'Newstrack' and 'Jab We Met'.
He is known to set up the Anti-Fake News War Room (AFWA) and the Open Source Intelligence Desk (OSINT) with a purpose to promote data-driven and fact-based journalism.

Kanwal is a graduate of Delhi University (Journalism), Cardiff University (International Broadcast Journalism), and the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
He is a Chevening Scholar and a Roy Peck Trust Grant recipient for Hostile Environment Journalism, and has won many awards for journalistic work.
