NELCO Gets Regulatory Nod for UL VNO-GMPCS Authorization, Eyes Expansion in Satellite Connectivity

NELCO , a key player in India’s satellite communications sector, has secured a crucial regulatory green light after the Department of Telecom granted authorization for UL VNO-GMPCS (Unified License Virtual Network Operator–Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite). Under this license, NELCO can act as a virtual network operator, offering satellite communication services without owning satellite infrastructure directly, enabling flexible and agile connectivity strategies.

 

The GMPCS VNO authorization allows NELCO to leverage global satellite constellations, including LEO and GEO networks, to expand its branded satellite internet and digital services across India. This marks a strategic pivot towards reseller partnerships, ensuring enhanced service agility and wider coverage—especially in rural, remote, and maritime domains. Industry experts highlight this approval as a key enabler for India’s digital transformation, bridging the connectivity gap and accelerating innovation in telecommunications.
