New Dawn for Astrophysics

A new astronomical observatory has been inaugurated at Panchet Hilltop in Purulia, West Bengal. It is the first facility of its kind in Eastern India. A collaboration between Satyendra Nath Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS) and Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University (SKBU), it is equipped with 12-inch and 14-inch telescopes and plans to install a 1.5-meter telescope later. Strategically located in a remote region, the observatory will make it possible for us to increase our knowledge regarding dark matter and black holes as well as how stars are born. This would be an immense contribution to astrophysics for Eastern India.
