A historic launch ceremony in Anand, Gujarat has flagged off the Sardar@150 Unity March National Padyatra, an 11-day, nearly 180–190 km foot march from Karamsad to the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar. The campaign honours Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary and rallies youth for Ek Bharat, Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The National Padyatra was inaugurated at Shastri Maidan, Vallabh Vidyanagar, under the aegis of Mera Yuva (MY) Bharat, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Union Minister Anupriya Patel and senior Union and state leaders participated, after offering tributes at Sardar Patel’s ancestral home in Karamsad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s written message, read out at the event, extended blessings to the padyatris and urged the youth to draw inspiration from Sardar Patel’s integrity, unity and nation-building spirit. The “Sardar Song” was launched and a special exhibition on Patel’s role in India’s cooperative movement was opened to the public.
Scale, route and thematic focus
The padyatra will cover around 11 days and nearly 180–190 km, with participants walking 15–18 km daily through Anand and adjoining districts before reaching the Statue of Unity on 6 December. The route includes 150 thematic stops featuring exhibitions, cultural displays, Sardar Gathas and community engagements highlighting Patel’s role in unifying over 560 princely states.
Ten major “Sardar Sabhas” along the way will focus on themes such as Bardoli Satyagraha, national integration, cooperatives, constitutional vision and administrative leadership, addressed by cabinet ministers, scholars and youth icons.
Youth mobilisation and Ek Bharat message
Lakhs of young people from NSS, NCC, MY Bharat units and local organisations are taking part, with parallel gram sabhas, social-awareness drives and showcases of government schemes like Nasha Mukt Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Swadeshi stalls and local entrepreneurship exhibits reinforce the self-reliance theme.
Cultural evenings at each halt point feature folk performances, patriotic songs, unity-themed art and street plays on Sardar Patel’s life, turning the padyatra into a moving festival of national integration from “Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Kutch to Kohima.”
