If you’ve ever wondered who’s shaping the future of artificial intelligence in India, Dr. Mausam at IIT Delhi is a name you should know. He’s spent over two decades immersed in AI research, earning international respect for his work in areas like natural language processing and machine learning. But what really sets him apart is his mission to make AI accessible to every student—not just computer science majors or tech insiders.
Here’s what makes Dr. Mausam’s story so interesting:
He started his journey at IIT Delhi, went on to the University of Washington, and has since published over 100 research papers. His work has influenced both academia and industry, and he’s collaborated with big names like Google and Microsoft.
Dr. Mausam is passionate about teaching. He says he learns the most from his students’ questions, which keep him on his toes and push him to keep exploring new ideas.
Now, as the head of the Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence at IIT Delhi, he’s leading a major change: starting this July, every IIT Delhi graduate will get hands-on experience with AI, no matter their field of study.
He’s also encouraging more teamwork and cross-disciplinary projects, making sure students and professors work together and with industry partners.
Dr. Mausam’s goal is simple but ambitious: he wants AI knowledge to be within everyone’s reach, so India’s next generation can help shape the future, no matter where they come from.
