With a unique blend of compassion and determination, the Rotary Club of Bombay Pier initiated the 4 Corner India Drive on July 13 from Nariman Point, Mumbai. The 40day, 15,000kilometer road trip has the dual aims of raising awareness of cervical cancer and giving free HPV immunization to 1,00,000 underprivileged girls of India.
Kickoff and first milestone:
-
Led by Meenakshi Aravind of XPD India & Beyond and Priya Rajpal of Rotary Club Bombay Pier, the campaign was undertaken with zeal and commitment.
-
Their bright red Isuzu SUV, which they've renamed Laal Pari, is not only a vehicle—it's a rolling testament to strength, with vaccines, supplies, and hope on board.
Ahmedabad effect:
-
The first stop was Ahmedabad, where over 50 girls were given free HPV shots at a camp.
-
All the recipients were given a certificate of vaccination, a step towards empowerment and health security.
-
The parents were relieved, and Rotarians collaborated handinhand to execute it smoothly.
Outside Ahmedabad:
-
The team traveled further west to Bhuj, vaccinating another 50 girls at Dr. Divya Tekani's clinic.
-
A flag exchange ceremony was also held to mark district unity, and a fafdajalebi lunch was served traditionally among volunteers afterwards.
Future
-
No sooner does the drive reach Koteswar, the westernmost corner of India, than it reiterates the team's resolve to explore every nook and corner of the country.
-
With each mile, Laal Pari not only delivers supplies—but a promise that no girl will be left behind.
