Salman Khan's 2007 Hollywood cross-over Marigold remains his biggest box office disaster, made on a budget of ₹19 crore and grossing just ₹2 crore worldwide. Directed by Willard Carroll, Marigold starred Hollywood actress Ali Larter with Salman in a Bollywood musical genre. Made in Hindi and English too, the film failed to connect emotionally, grossing merely ₹1.27 crore in India and $250K internationally.
The movie's flop put an end to Ali Larter's Bollywood dreams and prompted director Willard Carroll to drop filmmaking altogether. Marigold, despite the superstar power of Salman, failed to do well on account of poor promotion and poor scripting, one of the lowest points in his career before he soared with Wanted in 2009.
