Cebu Pacific Catering Services (CPCS), a leading airline caterer based in the Philippines, has announced a landmark commitment to source only 100% cage-free eggs across all its operations by 2030. This bold move aligns CPCS with a growing global trend among airline caterers to prioritize animal welfare and sustainable sourcing within their supply chains.

Sherwin B. Olivar, General Manager of CPCS, emphasized that the decision reflects the company’s dedication to meeting international sustainability standards while continuing to deliver high-quality meals for airline passengers. CPCS, a joint venture between MacroAsia Corporation, Cathay Pacific Catering Services of Hong Kong, and MGO Pacific Resources Corporation, prepares over 2,000 meals daily for international flights at Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

The commitment has been lauded by international NGO Lever Foundation, which collaborates with businesses to improve animal welfare practices. Robyn del Rosario, Sustainability Program Manager at Lever Foundation, praised CPCS’s leadership, noting that the transition will have a positive ripple effect on regional supply chains and set a new benchmark for the aviation catering industry.

Cage-free egg production allows hens to move freely in open indoor environments, significantly improving animal welfare and reducing food safety risks compared to traditional caged systems. Studies by the European Food Safety Authority have shown that cage-free farms are up to 25 times less likely to be contaminated with salmonella.

CPCS’s move follows similar pledges by major airline caterers worldwide, marking a coordinated industry shift toward more responsible sourcing and sustainability.
