Akasa Air has announced a major partnership with Adani Airport Holdings to begin commercial operations from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), marking a big step forward for both the airline and the region’s connectivity.
Key Highlights:
Akasa Air will be one of the first airlines to operate from NMIA, with flights expected to start as soon as the airport opens, likely in August 2025.
The airline will kick off with 15 domestic departures and plans to ramp up to 50 by the end of the winter schedule, with a long-term goal of over 100 weekly domestic flights, scaling up to 300 domestic and more than 50 international departures per week as demand grows.
Akasa Air’s founder and CEO, Vinay Dube, said this move is part of the airline’s broader vision to build a future-ready network that meets the evolving needs of Indian travelers. No other airline will have a larger percentage of its fleet and operations based out of NMIA.
The airline will operate from both the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the new Navi Mumbai airport, taking its daily departures from Mumbai to more than 80.
Akasa Air is also planning to establish up to 10 aircraft parking bases by 2027 and expand internationally into key Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets.
The partnership is expected to help decongest Mumbai’s current airport, boost regional development, and provide more options and seamless travel experiences for passengers.
Adani Airport Holdings’ CEO, Arun Bansal, welcomed Akasa as an inaugural partner, highlighting the collaboration’s role in making NMIA a major domestic and international hub for millions of travelers.
