Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled ambitious plans to develop the Visakha Economic Region as the state’s primary growth engine, aiming for a $120 billion economy by 2032. The initiative focuses on industrial expansion, infrastructure development, and job creation, positioning Visakhapatnam as a future economic powerhouse.
 
1. Key Development Plans & Economic Vision
  • The Visakha Economic Region spans eight districts, including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, ASR, and Manyam2.
  • The government plans to develop six ports, seven manufacturing nodes, 17 agricultural zones, six service hubs, and 12 tourism hubs.
  • Officials are working to identify one lakh acres for various projects, including industrial parks, IT hubs, and logistics centers.
2. Infrastructure & Job Creation
  • The region currently has a GDP of $49 billion and is projected to generate 20-24 lakh jobs by 20323.
  • Plans include 7.5 lakh housing units, 10,000 hotel rooms, 20 innovation centers, 10 colleges, and 7,000 hospital beds.
  • The Vizag Metro project, spanning 77 km, is set for completion between 2028 and 2030, improving urban connectivity.
3. Future Outlook & Strategic Investments
  • Visakhapatnam is being developed as a steel hub, with investments in petrochemicals, shipbuilding, defense, electronics, and clean tech.
  • The government is promoting solar, wind, hydro, battery storage, and green hydrogen as part of its energy transition roadmap.
Tourism is being treated as an industry, with policies designed to attract investors and boost employment.
