In a major boost to India's defense industry, Ashok Leyland has received several orders for ₹7 billion from the Indian Army. The company will be delivering 500 pre-fabricated short chassis buses for difficult mountainous routes, improving the mobility and operating range of the Army. These 4×2 configuration 105 kW-powered buses have a speed of 80 km/h and a gross vehicle weight of 9,440 kg. This acquisition, as a 'Buy (Indian-IDDM)' purchase, is consistent with India's 'Aatmnirbhar Bharat' vision and is the sequel to Ashok Leyland's earlier ₹800 crore order for bespoke defense vehicles. The contract represents an important milestone in the modernization program of the Indian Army, augmenting its logistic capability and defense preparedness.
