Missed the July 25 Voter Deadline? You Still Have a Voice up to September 1
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified that the voters, who failed to meet the July 25 deadline for submitting documents under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, can still register themselves. The claims and objections period from August 1 to September 1 is a window of opportunity.
Key Points of the Expanded Registration Process
- Electors can submit an application for inclusion in the draft electoral roll on Form 6 along with a declaration form.
- For individuals whose names were not included due to failure to file enumeration forms before July 25.
- Booth Level Agents (BLAs) can continue submitting a maximum of 10 certified forms each day throughout this period.
What Comes Next
- The draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, identifying only individuals who had submitted forms prior to the first cut-off date.
- Objections and claims can be raised at Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) offices or online.
- No deletions shall be carried out without a proper inquiry and a just hearing for the affected person.
Final Roll and Political Oversight
- The final roll of electors will be published on 30 September.
- Free copies of the draft and final rolls will be made available to recognized political parties.
- The EC has called for parties to submit additional BLAs to promote openness and public engagement.
This longer window provides greater safeguarding of the qualified voters against disenfranchisement and supports the democratic process.
