Bengaluru, May 5, 2025 - The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert to Bengaluru as the city braces for spells of rain and thundershowers, with the rainy weather forecast to persist at least until May 6. Citizens are being asked to remain vigilant for thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds, particularly in the late afternoon and evening.
Forecast at a Glance:
-
May 5: Partly cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Maximum temperature around 33°C, minimum around 21°C.
-
May 6: Rain or thundershowers likely in the evening or night. Temperatures will be steady, with highs around 33°C and lows around 21°C.
-
May 7 onwards: The weather will become partly cloudy, with a gradual decrease in rainfall activity.
The IMD alert has been extended to some Karnataka districts, such as Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Raichur, and Yadgir, all of which are likely to see thunderstorms and squalls in the next few days.
Current Weather Data
Bengaluru observed a maximum of 33.2°C (1.1°C less than normal) and a minimum of 21.7°C (0.6°C less than normal) over the last 24 hours. There was no rain in these 24 hours, but there was high humidity, with 81% recorded in the morning.
Pre-Monsoon Showers:
These spells of rains are a component of the country's pre-monsoon activity, caused by shifting wind conditions and moisture arrival from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. IMD cautions gusty winds accompanying the showers are possible, and recommends cautionary measures, particularly for travelers and commuters during periods of storms.
Travel Advisory:
If traveling to neighboring hill stations or destinations of touristic interest in early May, pack rain gear and don't travel into hilly terrain during thunderstorms, as conditions might be treacherous and visibility impaired.
Although showers are likely to subside after May 6, partly cloudy conditions and moderate temperatures are likely to continue through the week. The IMD keeps a close eye on the situation, with no cyclone threat imminent for Karnataka as of now.
