Bengaluru’s infamous traffic gridlock has reached a boiling point, with residents coining the term “ORRmageddon” to describe the daily chaos on the city’s Outer Ring Road (ORR). A viral post by former Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B summed it up: “6 kms – 1 hour. I can run a 10K in 45 minutes.” The post struck a nerve, sparking a flood of similar stories from commuters who say walking is now faster than driving.
The ORR, which feeds major tech hubs like Marathahalli and Bellandur, has become a symbol of Bengaluru’s infrastructure crisis. From 3.5-hour commutes for 12 km to health issues caused by prolonged traffic stress, citizens are demanding real solutions. Entrepreneur Dilip Kumar likened the traffic to a pandemic, urging companies to reinstate remote work. Even Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia weighed in, calling the congestion “insane.”
Despite flyovers and signal-free corridors, the city’s rapid growth has far outpaced its road capacity. For many, work-from-home is no longer a perk—it’s a survival strategy.
