Bharat Biotech’s ₹1,500 Crore Odisha Plant Set to Revolutionize Vaccines, Create 3,500 Jobs

Bharat Biotech has opened a ₹1,500 crore state-of-the-art vaccine manufacturing unit at Odisha Biotech Park in Bhubaneswar, which will provide 3,500 jobs-2,000 direct and 1,500 indirect-and boost the economy and biotech landscape of the region. Operated by the subsidiary Sapigen Biologix, the plant has a capacity of eight billion doses annually and is one of the largest in the world, with the ability to produce over 10 vaccines, starting with oral cholera (Hillchol), malaria (RTS,S), and oral polio vaccines. Chikungunya and Zika vaccines are in the pipeline in the future.

The facility aims to address global vaccine shortages and increase India's self-reliance and pandemic preparedness. Its placement represents a strategic first for a large biotech plant in eastern India, building regional expertise and attracting international attention, including a recent visit from the President of Singapore.
