Tom Cruise's highly-awaited swansong as Ethan Hunt has blitzed the Indian box office, with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opening in record numbers. The film hit the screens on May 17, six days ahead of its worldwide opening, and earned a healthy ₹17.5 crore on day one, becoming the highest Hollywood opener in India in 2025.
The eighth film in the iconic spy franchise drew a strong 75.61% English-language film occupancy, according to trade portal Sacnilk. Not only is the opening day collection higher than the previous franchise outing, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (₹12 crore in 2023), but also higher than big Hollywood releases of the year such as Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World (₹4.2 crore) and Thunderbolts (₹3.8 crore). Even the worldwide hit A Minecraft Movie opened to just ₹2 crore in India.
Pan-India release of the film in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and English helped the film become a mass hit, with the film receiving especially good response in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. Chennai took the lead with more than 80% occupancy on the first day, primarily in premium formats. The performance of the film also overtook many of the recent Bollywood blockbusters, proving Cruise's tried-and-tested popularity among the Indian masses.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning has a star-studded cast including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, and Esai Morales. Since there are no big Indian releases this weekend, trade analysts are confident that the film can sweep the box office and even reach ₹55 crore on the first weekend end.
