Bollywood Mourns: Actor Mukul Dev Passes Away at 54 After Brief Illness

Bollywood and the Indian film industry are left stunned by the untimely death of much-acclaimed actor Mukul Dev, who died at 54 on Friday evening, May 23, 2025. From playing versatile characters in movies like Son of Sardaar, R. Rajkumar, Jai Ho, and Dastak, to appearances in a number of television serials, Mukul Dev's death has everyone in the industry and fans devastated.

 

Reportedly, Mukul had been ill for a few days and was put in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where his health worsened. The reason behind his death has not been established yet, and an announcement from the family is pending. Friends and officials from the film industry reported that Mukul kept to himself more and more after losing his parents, hardly venturing out or socializing in the past few years.

 

Actress Deepshikha Nagpal, a friend, has confirmed the news on social media, citing shock and grief. She mentioned their recent interactions and said that Mukul never mentioned anything about his illness even to their close friends circle. Actor Vindu Dara Singh, who had worked with Mukul in Son of Sardaar, also conveyed his shock, recalling Mukul as a great person and mourning that he would never get to see himself on the silver screen again.

 

Condolences have flowed in from every corner of the film industry. Actor Manoj Bajpayee had shared a heart-wrenching post, referring to Mukul as "a brother in spirit" and lamenting the premature loss of Mukul. Mukul Dev leaves behind his brother, actor Rahul Dev.

 

Mukul Dev started his television career with the serial Mumkin in 1996 and entered Bollywood the same year with Dastak. During the years that followed, he gained fame for his strong performances in Hindi, Punjabi, and South Indian films, television, and music albums. He was even awarded the 7th Amrish Puri Award for outstanding performance in acting for his work in Yamla Pagla Deewana.
