Bridging the City: Kochi Metro’s Pink Line Girders Signal Rapid Advance

Kochi Metro’s Phase II Pink Line is rapidly advancing with girder installations along the Infopark Expressway. Spanning 11.2 km from JLN Stadium to Infopark, this key expansion will ease congestion, link major IT hubs, and is slated for full completion by the end of 2026 with early openings planned in mid-2026.

Kochi Metro’s ambitious Phase II expansion, known as the Pink Line, has hit a significant construction milestone with the installation of its first heavy-duty U-girder near Infopark. The project, managed by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), is designed to link JLN Stadium in Kaloor to Infopark in Kakkanad, one of Kochi’s fastest-growing IT and residential corridors.

Major Construction Progress

The first U-girder, weighing 170 tons and fabricated at the KMRL casting yard in Kalamassery, was installed on pillars 284 and 285 along the Infopark Expressway.
So far, 65 pillars have been erected near planned stations including Cess, Alinchuvadu, and Vazhakkala, with pier caps placed on 18 pillars.
A total of 1,135 piles have been completed for the metro line and station structures, bolstered by rapid production of girders and pier caps.

Route and Features

The Pink Line spans 11.2 km, connecting 11 stations from JLN Stadium to Infopark.
Unique architectural features include a crossing where the Pink Line runs above the existing Phase I Aluva line near Palarivattom, providing a visual treat and operational efficiency.
Five stations on the first segment up to Padamugal are expected to be operational by June 30, 2026, with the full line targeted for completion by December 31, 2026.

Strategic Importance

Connecting residential areas, business hubs, and major IT parks, the Pink Line is expected to reduce traffic congestion and commuting times substantially.
The expansion aligns with Kerala’s vision of sustainable urban mobility and economic growth, helping transform Kochi into a future-ready smart city.

Looking Forward

Tendering for track laying is underway as girder installation advances, signaling swift progress toward operational readiness.
Discussions are ongoing to extend the line to the upcoming Infopark Phase III campus at Kizhakkambalam, potentially increasing connectivity further.

With its steady progress and strategic significance, the Kochi Metro Pink Line is set to become a critical artery in the city’s public transport network, enhancing daily commutes and stimulating urban growth.
