In a groundbreaking initiative, Mumbai University has collaborated with the British Council to launch a full-fledged climate skills programme. The programme, beginning today, will equip students and teachers with skills to address India's unique climate change challenges. Under the "Climate Skill – Seeds for Transition" programme, the university has selected 25 master trainers and three co-facilitators to receive special training from international experts who work for the British Council.
The five-day workshop starts today with the focus on developing local climate action projects. The students will be working on projects with NGOs and local government, such as biodiversity audits, wetland conservation, and energy audits. Mumbai University has also extended the programme beyond the British Council's initial objectives, involving 225 professors and 1,200 students. The university also plans to initiate green clubs in affiliated colleges to ensure the programme is sustainable in the long run.
