Canada Post has released a new Diwali stamp featuring a vibrant Rangoli design, symbolizing light, unity, and prosperity. Designed by Ritu Kanal of Underline Studio, the 2025 issue honors the Festival of Lights and Canada’s multicultural spirit, bridging global Indian traditions with contemporary design and craftsmanship.
Key Highlights: Canada Post’s Diwali Tribute
Celebrating Diversity Through Design: Released in Scarborough, Ontario — home to one of Canada’s largest South Asian populations — the Diwali stamp showcases a traditional Rangoli pattern, an art form made with petals, grains, or colored sands to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
A Radiant Work of Art: The design merges modern minimalism with intricate Indian symbolism, depicting symmetry and vibrancy that echo the spirit of Diwali. The stamp features the word “Diwali” inscribed in both Hindi and English, reflecting Canada’s bilingual identity woven through multicultural representation.
Part of Annual Series: Canada Post has been issuing Diwali stamps since 2017 to recognize cultural inclusion within its annual festive stamp series. The 2025 Rangoli edition continues that legacy, standing alongside stamps celebrating Eid, Hanukkah, and Christmas as part of the country’s holiday philatelic collection.
Design & Production: The 2025 stamp was designed by Ritu Kanal from Underline Studio and printed by Lowe-Martin. It’s available as a booklet of six (Permanent™ domestic rate) and as an Official First Day Cover, cancelled in Scarborough to commemorate the area’s strong Indo-Canadian heritage.
Festival Significance: Diwali, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists, marks the triumph of light over darkness. Canada Post highlighted how the vibrant traditions — from lighting diyas and exchanging sweets to creating Rangoli — align with universal values of hope, renewal, and generosity.
Cultural Appreciation: This annual release not only celebrates Indian heritage but also signifies Canada’s evolving recognition of cultural festivals that unite diverse communities across its provinces, reinforcing a shared ethos of harmony and inclusion.
