The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert as both Delhi and Mumbai brace for intense weather activity. Residents in the national capital can expect more rain and thunderstorms, while Mumbai is under an ‘orange alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Delhi Weather Update:
  • IMD forecasts light to moderate rain and thunderstorms for Delhi on May 23 and 24, with partly cloudy skies and the possibility of thunder and lightning through the weekend.
  • Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 34°C and 37°C, offering relief from the recent heatwave.
  • Gusty winds reaching 30–50 km/h are likely during thunderstorms, with a yellow alert in place for stormy conditions.
  • The wet spell is predicted to continue until Sunday, May 25, ensuring no heatwave conditions in the coming days.
Mumbai Weather Alert:
  • An orange alert is in effect for Mumbai on May 23 and 24, with IMD warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds up to 50–60 km/h.
  • The city is expected to experience cloudy skies, with the minimum temperature around 27°C and maximum near 30°C.
  • The alert is linked to a low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea, likely to intensify and bring intense showers across the Konkan region and parts of Maharashtra.
  • IMD has also issued red and orange alerts for several districts in Maharashtra for the next few days.
Monsoon Progress:
  • The southwest monsoon is advancing, with pre-monsoon showers reported in Kerala and other southern states.
  • Residents in both cities are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions as the wet and stormy spell continues.
