Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), India's leading warship and submarine constructor, has made a major leadership change with the appointment of Captain Jagmohan (Retd.) as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) in place of Biju George, who loses the additional charge.
Highlights:
-
The appointment of Captain Jagmohan as CMD was finally cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on April 17, 2025, on the basis of a recommendation from the Department of Defence Production.
-
He will be CMD until superannuation on September 30, 2029, or until further orders, with extensive experience from more than 25 years in the Indian Navy and senior Indian shipbuilding positions.
-
Earlier, Captain Jagmohan was Director (Corporate Planning, Projects & Business Development) at Goa Shipyard Limited and has been a key member in the Directorate of Naval Design and at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
-
A seasoned naval architect, he is a postgraduate in Naval Construction and Ocean Engineering from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur, and an alumnus of the Cochin University of Science & Technology.
-
Captain Jagmohan's areas of expertise in shipbuilding encompass heading the design and construction of intricate warship projects like advanced stealth frigates, anti-submarine warfare corvettes, and Indian Navy and Coast Guard patrol vessels.
-
Biju George, who has been Director (Shipbuilding) and also had the additional charge of CMD since March 2025, provided leadership continuity at a critical juncture for MDL and supervised major naval projects.
The takeover is likely to further consolidate MDL's status as a strategic defense PSU, with Captain Jagmohan's vision and technical expertise guiding the company towards new heights.
