Kaynes Semicon, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India, has shipped 900 units of India’s first commercially manufactured Intelligent Power Module (IPM5) Multi-Chip Modules (MCMs) from its Sanand OSAT facility to Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS) in the USA. This milestone marks a pivotal step in India's semiconductor ambitions under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0, with mass production targeted for January 2026. The achievement highlights India's growing capabilities in advanced semiconductor packaging, supported by strategic partnerships, including with Mitsui & Co., enhancing supply chain resilience.
In a groundbreaking milestone for India's semiconductor industry, Kaynes Semicon Private Limited – a wholly owned subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Limited – has rolled out and shipped 900 units of India's first commercially manufactured Intelligent Power Module (IPM5) Multi-Chip Modules (MCMs) from its state-of-the-art OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This transformational achievement, realized under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0, firmly places India on the global semiconductor manufacturing map.
The IPM5 is a highly sophisticated semiconductor device that integrates 17 dies within a single compact module. This includes six IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors), two controller ICs, six FRDs (Fast Recovery Diodes), and three diodes, designed to efficiently control motors and power applications in industrial and consumer systems. This multi-die design delivers superior reliability, thermal stability, and power efficiency, critical for sectors ranging from automotive to clean energy.
Key highlights of this landmark delivery include:
-
Shipment of 900 IPM5 Multi-Chip Modules to America's Alpha & Omega Semiconductor, a global power semiconductor leader headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
-
The Sanand facility's scalable capacity aims to reach an impressive 6.3 million chips per day upon full operational readiness.
-
Full commercial mass production is slated to begin by January 2026, with AOS expected to consume up to 1.5 million chips daily by Q1 2026-27.
-
Strategic partnership with Mitsui & Co., enhancing raw material supply chain resilience with critical components like lead frames, aluminum and copper wires, and mold compounds.
-
Validation of India's advanced semiconductor assembly capabilities, moving beyond design participation to leadership in complex chip packaging.
This delivery is a testament to Kaynes Semicon’s manufacturing excellence and the robustness of India’s semiconductor ecosystem. It supports India’s ambition to reduce global dependence by establishing a self-sustaining supply chain for highly integrated semiconductor products. Kaynes Semicon’s CEO Raghu Panicker recognized the collective effort and pivotal role of partners AOS and Mitsui in accelerating this success.
Beyond production, Kaynes Semicon is actively preparing to scale operations, increase workforce expertise, and attract global collaborations, positioning India as a trusted node in the global semiconductor network. This milestone encapsulates a major stride forward in India's journey to becoming a globally competitive semiconductor hub.
