Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar Stay Put: Delhi Govt Nixes Relocation Rumors

The Delhi government has officially cleared that there are no plans to relocate the iconic Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar markets, putting to rest huge speculation and political uproar. The government rather announced the formation of an 11-member committee for the upgradation of infrastructure in these centuries-old marketplaces, offering solutions to some of the most critical issues such as drainage, roads, and overhead wires. The government statement comes in the middle of heated controversy following earlier suggestions of moving the markets to less congested locations, which had met stiff opposition from traders and heritage conservationists. The new focus is now on refurbishing the existing facilities while preserving the markets' economic and cultural significance. The ruling reassures tens of thousands of traders and local businesses that the heritage and vibrancy of the markets of Old Delhi will be retained as part of the city's overall redevelopment plan.
