Chennai is set to take a major leap in public health and convenience with the launch of 50 state-of-the-art water ATMs across the city. This pioneering initiative, led by the Greater Chennai Corporation and Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, aims to provide 24/7 access to safe, affordable drinking water in high-traffic public spaces.
Key Highlights:
Strategic Locations: The water ATMs will be installed in bustling areas including beaches, bus stands, parks, schools, markets, and major transit hubs, ensuring maximum benefit for commuters, tourists, and daily wage earners.
Flexible Dispensing: Each ATM will offer purified water in two quantities—150 millilitres for quick refreshment and 1 litre for those needing more—catering to diverse public needs.
User-Friendly & Sustainable: Citizens can fill their own bottles, encouraging eco-friendly practices and reducing reliance on single-use plastics. Payment options include coins and digital modes, making the service accessible to all.
Round-the-Clock Access: The ATMs will operate 24/7, with robust filtration systems and regular maintenance to guarantee water quality and hygiene.
Security & Monitoring: CCTV surveillance and dedicated maintenance teams will ensure safety and smooth operation, while LED lighting will make the units visible and accessible even at night.
Government Commitment: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to inaugurate the project soon, marking the first phase of a broader plan to expand water access citywide.
This initiative is poised to be a game-changer for Chennai, promising affordable hydration and healthier living for millions.
