Indian Railways has just launched a significant upgrade to its e-ticketing system, achieving impressive new levels of speed and transparency while tackling ticketing fraud and bot misuse head-on. This overhaul, driven by artificial intelligence and Aadhaar-based verification, is designed to provide a smooth, secure, and fair ticket-booking experience for millions of users.
On May 22, 2025, the revamped system set a record by allowing 31,814 tickets to be booked in just 60 seconds. This remarkable achievement was made possible through strong backend improvements and AI-powered anti-bot measures. The system now effectively combats bot traffic, which used to make up nearly half of all login attempts during peak times, ensuring that real users have a fair shot at getting their tickets.
Some key security enhancements include the deactivation of 2.5 crore suspicious user IDs and the blocking of over 6,800 disposable email domains that fraudsters had been using to get around booking limits. Aadhaar verification is now mandatory for Tatkal and premium bookings, which further tightens security and helps prevent misuse.
The positive results are already evident:
-
Daily user logins have jumped by 19.5% to 82.57 lakh, and daily ticket bookings have increased by 11.85% year-on-year.
-
E-ticketing now makes up 86.38% of all reserved bookings, showcasing a significant shift towards digital adoption.
-
The attempt-to-booking ratio has improved from 43.1% to 62.2% in just eight months, indicating greater efficiency and fairness in the booking process.
Additional enhancements include quicker page loads thanks to content delivery networks, real-time fraud detection, and a direct complaint resolution mechanism through the Cyber Crime Portal.
With these sweeping changes, Indian Railways is reaffirming its dedication to transparency, user security, and providing a top-notch digital experience for all travelers.
