The city government of Delhi has announced a revolutionary move in its urbanisation plan with the declaration that 48 villages will be urbanised as part of the new Delhi Master Plan 2041. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma declared the move on a visit to Daulatpur village, pointing out that the plan was at the fag end and would be implemented soon.

The ambitious plan seeks to close the rural-urban gap by providing these villages with basic urban facilities like paved roads, well-designed drainage system, quality water supply, streetlights, schools, and hospitals. The action is set to drastically enhance the quality of life among inhabitants and spur infrastructural development in regions that have long been behind the rest of the capital.

One of the main provisions in the plan is a provision for free registration of properties in 'lal dora' zones-village areas that were historically outside some land-use controls. The policy will put an end to long-standing property conflict and allow villagers to acquire formal ownership documents without cost, thus empowering land rights and promoting transparency in property records.

The Master Plan 2041, drawn up by the Delhi Development Authority and awaiting the final go-ahead, addresses public input and experience gained from recent experiences like the 2023 floods. It covers wider aims like transforming Delhi into a 24x7 city, encouraging green development, and enhancing disaster resilience.

Minister Verma emphasized the government’s commitment to transparent and accountable implementation, stating that the plan will “change the face of Delhi’s villages” and provide rural populations with facilities on par with urban areas.
