LAT Aerospace, co-founded by Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal and former COO Surobhi Das, has acquired Gurugram-based defence robotics startup Sharang Shakti. This marks LAT Aerospace’s first major step into indigenous defence technology, aimed at building in-house capabilities for sensing, navigation, and control systems across both defence and civil aviation programs.
Deepinder Goyal’s aviation venture, LAT Aerospace, has taken a decisive step into defence technology by acquiring Sharang Shakti, an early-stage robotics startup based in Gurugram. Founded in January 2025, LAT Aerospace is focused on developing next-generation Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft designed for compact airstrips.
The acquisition of Sharang Shakti strengthens LAT Aerospace’s ambition to build indigenous defence capabilities, particularly in robotics-driven sensing, navigation, and control systems. Goyal emphasized in his announcement that the move is intended to create in-house technologies that can be deployed across both defence and civil aviation projects, positioning LAT Aerospace as a dual-sector innovator.
Industry observers view this acquisition as a strategic milestone, signaling India’s growing role in defence-tech innovation and the blending of civil and military aviation technologies.
