Delhi is in for stormy weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert on May 25, predicting rain, thunderstorms, and gusts of wind that can go up to a speed of 60 km/h. The alert follows a week of explosive weather, with dust storms and hailstorms, which had brought relief from the heat as well as disruptions to the city. Residents are urged to be careful and keep themselves informed about the latest advisories.

IMD Weather Alert and Forecast
  • The IMD has declared a yellow alert in Delhi on May 25, warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h during thunderstorm activity, particularly in the night and evening.
  • Dust-raising winds are forecast, leading the IMD to warn citizens of possible disturbances and health hazards due to exposure to dust.
Temperature and Rainfall
  • Day temperatures are predicted to remain between 36°C and 38°C on May 25, with a marginal increase in night temperatures to 26°C–28°C.
  • The maximum temperature will be below normal by 2–4°C, while the minimum might be above normal.
  • Light to moderate rainfall is predicted, which should ease the present heatwave conditions to some extent.
Recent Weather Events
  • Delhi saw a spate of intense weather conditions in the last week, with dust storms, heavy showers and hail causing power disruptions, traffic trouble, and damage to property.
  • Minimum temperature dipped sharply following recent rains, providing temporary relief from the heat.
Precautionary Measures
  • People are advised to stay indoors during times of strong winds and thunderstorms.
  • The IMD suggests mask and protective clothing to protect against dust, and goggles if going out.
  • Keep monitoring official weather forecasts, particularly in case of travel or commute plans during the alert time.
Extended Outlook
  • Weather will continue to be partly cloudy with a chance of more rain and thunderstorms in the next few days.
  • No heatwave is projected during the immediate forecast time, and temperatures will remain moderate for late May.
